Only in Japan: Radiation checked food at your local store

A bunch of Maitake Mushrooms go on sale in Chiba, Japan.

The label claims that these mushrooms have been inspected for radiation and deemed safe.  You can use the QR code to check the website with your cell phone, if you really want to. Mushrooms are rich in minerals making them that more toxic when radiated with isotopes.

Nearly two years after the ill fated March 11th meltdown in Fukushima many are still normally living in the aftermath.  Most people have forgotten, few are really concerned over the amount of radiation in the food, water, or air they intake.

And to be honest, there is some reason to be.  In some areas the radiation clearly has gone down.  Even independent sources show radiation levels almost half of what they were last year.( I apologize, usually I would have a source link but please take my word for it.  I don`t have the internet resources I need available to me for various reasons).

Needless to say some of indepent radiation monitoring shows other areas doubling in radiation from what they were last year.  This is clear evidence that hotspots are getting hotter with radiation while other areas are experiencing the breakdown or half life of their radioactive elements.

Strawberries from the Ibaraki Prefecture known to have radiation hotspots from Fukushima fallout. It was almost impossible to find a regular shaped strawberry in any of these baskets.  Are mututations this common in strawberries?
So what does this really mean? It is a tale-tell sign that the fallout radiation from Fukushima is real and not imagined.  Such dramatic changes in radiation levels for better or for worse should make people think about the long term effects of radiation exposure could be on their communities.  This should cause people to be even more vigilant in checking radiation levels are ensuring a safe environment for sake of public health, espeically children.

It is not time to panic, but to have resolve and determination to come up with methods and ways to combat this potentially harmful situation.

Remembering Japan: A Night of Prayer and Hope

A year from the exact day of the March 11th 2011 disaster in Japan we lit candles and placed them to spell out the characters for Japan as we said our prayers for the people and nation.

I was blessed to have the opportunity to hold an event in memory of March 11th 2011. There is no way I could capture in words the shock, terror, and sheer awe of the images the world saw on that day in Japan, yet we shared our story of that day with the people present.  We gathered with the purpose to remember together and pray together for those who are still hurting, still struggling, still suffering greatly from the aftermath of that tragic day.

The most powerful earthquake in Japan's recorded history has turned many to seek a new hope and to come together as a people. Our prayers for the Japanese were not silent wishes going up to some ambiguous Deity but were cries from the heart to bring hope and peace for them appealing to a loving and righteous God. It is a difficult thing to reflect on, but if all life belongs to God there is no other we can appeal to, no other we can turn to for something so grand, so profound.

There is hope for Japan despite all that has happened and that will happen. If Japan were to be humbled, let them rise ever stronger under a new banner of hope in a true God.

It truly was a night I will remember, a night that we, people with a burden for the Japanese, could share together. There is hope only when we look deep within and find our need to extend beyond ourselves.  We must see God's glorious story and purpose for humanity. That story began with our creation and was redeemed through Christ's sacrifice and continues with us into the future.

Tales from Japan: Depopulation of Eastern Japan

New suggested government evacuation zone if Fukushima meltdown problems were to worsen
The 2012 new year arrived with a large earthquake in Japan. See here NEW YEAR'S QUAKE

Not long after this M7 trembler, the area of East Japan saw a sudden increase in radiation levels across several prefectures. Some areas as far as Tokyo reading twice as high as before. Fears that trouble in the number 4 reactor pool which may lead to another potential critical situation has many citizens and watchdogs concerned.

Link about criticality in Reactor 4 which had a broken pipe that dried up the fuel pool.

As more and more data continues to pile up it is becoming clear to even skeptics that this radiation contamination and extremely hazardous situation is beyond government and TEPCO's control. The media is now beginning to take a more critical tone on the situation and come to embrace the harsh reality.

Many people have begun to realize that they are risking their health and lives by staying in areas even 250km from the Fukushima power plant. In the suburbs of Tokyo there are increasing reports of children testing positive for fallout radiation from Fukushima.

It is no longer an issue of possibility, the data is slowly coming out to testify to the truth of the matter and time is crucial.  The longer people are exposed to this radiation, especially as it gets closer to the one year mark, the higher the risk, the more real the danger becomes for people living in the entire area of East Japan.

It seems that the public has been responding to the data as this map from the Asahi Shimbun shows:

The pink areas are towns that reported a decrease in population compared with October of 2011.

There is no doubt that as more signs and symptoms manifest in the coming months that even more people will leave, many without money or support of the government or compensation from TEPCO.

Indeed a great evil is being done here. One can only hope for divine retribution for such an atrocity.

It brings to mind the messages I have heard about the future of Japan.
