Everyday we wake up, we drink, we eat, we breath, we take this for granted most of the time. Without these our physical bodies lose their power, the ability to function.
An often quoted verse of the Bible is "man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." It originally comes from the book Duetronomy, as a reminder to the people of Israel about how God brought them through suffering and provided for them with manna from heaven. It further becomes more famous when Jesus uses it in the trial versus Satan in the desert.
Without food we will die physically, so what is Jesus talking about here? He is talking about life, but in a different way. He is saying that God speaks and from His words we have life.
Now most people will admit there is more to life than just physical existence. We have a conscience, a spirit, an awareness of our place in the universe, in space and time. So just as there is a need to derive physical power from food, there is also a need to derive spiritual power from the word of God.
Most of us know and can testify that there is actual power in the use of words. Words create ideas, they move our emotions, they motivate, they teach and instruct us, they empower us in numerous ways.
So the question is...whose words are we listening to?
Our state of being, our life is greatly affected by the words we hear, not only the food we eat. Jesus says that if we abide in him, and his words, there is life. (Read John 15).
The power source for the life of the Christ follower is found in the word of God. There is no other substitute.
The challenge with being filled with the word of God, is that there are so many other power sources readily available to us. We look for words to satisfy our weak spirits all the while neglecting the power source found in God`s word.
The focus is to be, instead of reading the Word with the idea that it is a mere Christian tradition, or something we HAVE to do, that we read knowing that this is a power source, giving us the strength to endure every trial, and to overcome evil at every opportunity. So if you are feeling weak, re-connect to God and abide in His word and find your strength.
May you all be filled with His power, as You abide in His word!
Dude! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteJoh 4:32-34 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. (33) Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? (34) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
I thought that scripture would fit. If we take care of God's biz, He will take care of ours!
Here is another one:
Job 23:12 I have not gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
You are so right.. We focus too much on getting food in to our mouths by serving mammon.. when the real power, the real source is Jesus!
Manna only fell near the glory cloud! We gotta follow Him.
Hope you are doing well.
God bless...
Thanks for the verses Conrad! I actually wanted to fit them in somewhere, but I didn`t want to go to long hahaha
